For those of you who don’t already know, the Xbox 360’s most recent update now includes Internet Browsing capabilities, which is a pretty big deal!
This latest update, is just another step that the Xbox brand is taking in the direction of having an amazing ‘All-in-one’ entertainment system. Now that Xbox has internet explorer, who needs a computer anymore?
This update not only provides Xbox Live users with a cool new capability for browsing the internet, but it will also open doors for advertisers and allow referral traffic to external websites. Advertising within the Xbox and PlayStation dashboards is a service that we’ve offered for awhile now at RapidFire (Console Integration), but historically, the ads were limited in their ability for users to interact with the ads and to click-thru to external websites…meaning the ads were more suited for brand awareness type ad campaigns.
With the new internet browsing functionality, advertisers will now have the benefit of being able to track the effectiveness of campaigns on their own-end with tools like Google Analytics, and they’ll be able to better measure metrics like ROI as well. Additionally, companies with less of a focus on branding, like small-medium sized eCommerce or retail companies, can now benefit by having consumers purchase products from within their Xbox, via engaging advertisements.
